Striving for Sustainability
The 34th Australian Dental Congress’s principal venue, the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre (BCEC), is committed to sustainability encompassing its environmental, social and economic impact.
As a leading provider of convention and exhibition facilities and services, the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre is working towards becoming a world leading sustainable event facility.
The Centre is committed to achieving ecologically sustainable development (ESD) through a balance of environmental, economic and social/cultural factors in a way that will ensure that resource conservation and the environment is protected now and for future generations.
The BCEC’s aim to put sustainability at the core of the way they do business, and to achieve this they are committed to:
- Reducing their environmental impact, with a specific focus on water, energy and waste
- Adding to economic development through increased usage of the Centre by clients who value the commitment to sustainability, and the centre’s contribution to the local economy
- Educating BCEC staff, clients, suppliers and community by communicating their strategic business goals and positive contributions to the environment
- Enhancing social impact through providing a safe and healthy work environment and work experience opportunities
The Centre recognises that it must work in collaborative partnerships to achieve all of these goals.
In addition, the BCEC, through its staff led community cabinet, engages in Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) community engagement projects, undertaken within working hours.
Community work by members of staff is focused on the homeless sector with other activities shared between health care and animal welfare. Of particular note, is that in the past two years the Centre has donated more than 40,000 packaged meals to Foodbank to help feed Brisbane’s homeless.
